9-step guide to hosting a web conference on Android
Let’s take a quick look at the short graphic instructions that will help you master web conferencing on Android. But first, take your mobile and get ISL Groop for Android on Google Play for free.

Step 1 – Sign up, log in: Sign up to create an ISL Online user account (new users) or simply log into your existing account (remember the all-in-one pricing policy?).

Step 2 – New meeting: If you are new to ISL Groop, then you’ll find an empty list of meetings when logged in. Create a new meeting by simply clicking on the ‘+’ button.

Step 3 – Meeting title: Give the new meeting a meaningful title since it will be displayed in the application’s most visible top title bar. Once created, the meeting will be listed under ‘My meetings’ by its title.

Step 4 – Join and invite: To join the meeting, click on its title. You can send invitations to other collaborators inside the application or you can click on the pointer on the right and invite others first.

Step 5 – Video conference: Once in a meeting, turn on your camera and microphone to start a video conference with others.

Consider turning your phone to a landscape mode for a bigger view of the participants’ videos and the presentation slide.

Step 6 – Presentation: Follow the presentation content shared from a desktop computer and interact via video conferencing.

Step 7 – Library slides: Open the ‘Library’ tab to scroll through all content slides. By clicking on a certain slide you can force it to be used in the meeting presentation.

Step 8 – Chatting: Open the ‘Chat’ tab for text chatting with other collaborators. You can send a message to everyone (select ‘all’) or to a certain person (select her/him from the list).

Step 9 – Additional options: See additional options by clicking on the button in the top right corner. They will let you switch the camera from front to back, manage participants by muting their audio, open settings and exit the meeting.

Transfer Active Remote Desktop Sessions from One Supporter to Another

You know that situation when you take over a client with a technical issue, start a remote desktop session with great confidence to fix it in minutes and then suddenly realize you have no idea of the matter? That. Naturally, the client would be in much better hands with your colleague technician. In response to such incidents, ISL Online has issued new functionality that made it a snap to transfer active ISL Light remote desktop sessions from one supporter to another. To transfer a session, you just need to open Tools in the ISL View window – one that delivers the client’s desktop – find Session Transfer and Send a link via email to the appropriate supporter. The fact that you can invite another person to participate in your remote support session doesn’t mean that both supporters can stay in the same session though. In fact, ISL Light remains a one-on-one remote support tool. Nevertheless, it does allow transferring sessions back and forth, pausing and resuming them. Anyway, I have prepared a mini guide with print screens to get you started.

1. Before we start, let me just remind you that when you start a remote desktop sharing session with a client, the session gets listed in your Web account.

2. Now, seriously, do you see the window where the remote client’s desktop is streaming? That’s the ISL View window and that’s where you will find the Session Transfer options. If you open Tools in the ISL View window, the Session Transfer is the last of the options. It offers to either Send, Copy, Block or Pause the active session. ‘Send’ an invitation to another technician via email, or ‘Copy’ the link, for instance, to your chat in an instant messenger (ISL Pronto).

Alternatively, if you haven’t started desktop sharing yet, you can also right click on the tools button in the ISL Light Desk application and transfer a session from there.

3. Send the email to another operator, who must be logged in the ISL Online services in order to take over the session.

4. Although the session has been transferred to another operator, you can still see and resume it in the Web account.

5. Now, let’s see what’s behind ‘Session Transfer’ / ‘Pause’. When you choose ‘Pause’ the session closes on your side and stays active on the client’s side. However, the paused session is still listed in your Web account, where you can resume it, for instance, on another computer by clicking its session number, or ‘Transfer’ it to another technician.

ISL Online Recovers from Massive DDoS Attack

The ISL Online’s website (www.islonline.com) was hit by a massive distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack on Friday, November 9, 2012. Although the website was hardly responsive during the attack from 12.52 CET to 21.17 CET, all ISL Online services running in the cloud were fully functional and the data security was NOT compromised in any way.

A DDoS is an attack when millions of computers all request information from the server they are attacking at the same time. The server is overloaded and unable to respond to legit requests – similar to trying to hold a conversation at a very loud party.

The DDoS was classified as a level 3 / level 4 TCP SYN Flooding attack including over 2 million IP addresses by IP spoofing. It was carried out by sending from 100,000 – 500,000 packets per second each containing 40 bytes thus generating the network traffic ranging from 32 – 160 Mbps per server affected. Each IP submitted from 3 to 6 requests per second. Read more about TCP SYN Flooding Attacks.

The ISL Online tech team started the network investigation within 3 minutes after the attack. Additional resources were added to the web server and the website was moved to the content delivery network.

By the evening all systems and services were running normally and the DDoS attack was reported to the authorities. An international investigation was launched. The penalties for such crime include up to 10 years’ imprisonment.

Surely this was not a pleasant experience. However, once again the robustness of the ISL Online Network was proved. All the ISL Online services were running normally during the DDoS attack on the web server.
