While I’m sure everybody loves ISL Light with its smart ways to connect to a remote computer in even the next-to-impossible circumstances and its nifty functionality for a smooth and simple remote support service, take note that there are a few ways the app works toward an even better user experience. In software, for remote control of another computer, it all starts with security. That is why such software should not merely protect data transmissions but should also protect you as the remote desktop support provider and the client as its receiver. The best way to go about this is “session recording”.
The motivation for recording a desktop controlling session usually lies in the help desk company’s own protection. Holding a tangible evidence for those rare cases when let’s say a support session supposedly caused the client computer some errors could prevent many possible conflicts. A session recording would indisputably show if such accusations were in fact true. The motivation could also be an extension of the company’s pursuit of gathering typical and atypical support cases for efficient staff training.
Like you will find checked in a feature list of most remote support products, ISL Online offers session recording as well, well, ISL Light (remote desktop support) and ISL AlwaysOn (remote access) currently do. Unlike most, ISL Online has taken the job seriously and developed a special plug-in, downloadable on demand and used for recording sessions, and a unique player called ISL Recording Player, where users can then playback such recordings. Files are written in a special format .isr whose unique advantage lies in its small size. Nevertheless,.isr files can be easily exported into .avi.
What I like most about the ISL Online recording plug-in is that it actually records everything during a remote desktop session — desktop sharing, text chat, video streams, and audio communication — while the ISL Recording Player plays them separately but on the other hand synchronized. It also offers a lot of viewing options, e.g one can adjust the playback speed to five pre-set possibilities (0.2x, 0.5x, 1x, 2x, 5x) allowing a quick glance through the recording and also a good insight into important details. Even though the ISL Recording Player has been designed to play .isr files only, it boasts with something that even most commercial players on the market lack – multi-language support since the interface has been translated into 26 languages (English, German, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, other).
Let me give you a brief idea of how ISL Recording Player works:
Session recording in ISL AlwaysOn remote access
Although this feature adds a big value to remote support, it might be indispensible in remote access. This is particularly true for those companies who have trusted computer maintenance to a third-party servicing company by granting non-limited remote access to their computers. In addition to ISL Light’s on-demand session recording, ISL AlwaysOn’s offers a powerful option to start recording automatically at the beginning of every remote access session. And while in ISL Light recordings are saved on a help desk computer, these are saved on the client computer in ISL AlwaysOn.
How to automatize session recording in ISL AlwaysOn?
Easily. Just start the program installed on the remote (client) computer by double-clicking the ISL AlwaysOn icon in the taskbar, then open the ‘Security’ tab and check ‘Enable session recording’ under Session Options. That’s it. All recordings will be automatically saved to a selected destination.
If you haven’t tried session recording yet, I suggest you first take a look at our quick video tutorial:
Feel free to let us know in the comments how you get on with it.
Might be good to make an ‘always record’ option. That way I can know everything is always recorded in a certain folder, without forgetting to press record. I bet that the day that I need the recording the most, it will not have been recorded, because it was supposed to be an innocent session…
Great. Get back and tell us if it prooved useful and how.
