Linux and mac users, this one is for you!
We have released a new version of ISL Light for linux and mac, version 3.3.0. You can see all the details on our release info page, but here is a brief description of all the main improvements:
- Native 64-bit linux version of the main program and plugins
This is a major thing for all users with 64-bit linux distributions, since it is no longer required to have 32-bit libraries installed in order to run ISL Light. The autodetection on our standard links will provide 64-bit linux systems with a 64-bit ISL Light for download. - New startup method on linux
Linux ISL Light users have probably noticed recent changes in most distributions when handling .desktop files. The procedure has been getting more and more complicated and less user-friendly (mark as trusted, set as executable etc.), so we decided to switch to zip files, similar to our mac version. When you click our standard download link with autodetection on a linux machine, you are now offered a zip file for download. Just extract it (e.g. to your desktop) and run the resulting binary file, it is that simple. - Support for ISSC in the viewer
You already know about the technology behind our ISSC and now it is making its way to linux and mac, first as a part of the viewer. If you are connected to a machine that supports desktop streaming with ISSC (currently a windows machine running ISL Light 3.3.0 or newer), you can switch streaming mode on your viewing side to any of the ISSC predefined values and enjoy the benefits of ISSC.
- Improved web proxy detection and support
This version greatly improved web proxy detection and support on both linux and mac, so it should be able to get a working transport in situations where previous versions failed. It is also possible to force the desired connection options (such as web proxy address, username/password) and transport type (e.g.https-proxy
) through command line arguments without relying on system settings.
